In recent years, the sports hall “Bale” has become the reason why both tourists and Istrians visit this magical place. Namely, Bale has a hall that won first prize in the category of sports facilities at the first World Architecture Festival in Barcelona in 2008. Competitors for this prestigious award were buildings such as the Wembley arena in London, the Watercube Olympic pool and the Tennis Center in Beijing.
The project of the Zagreb design studio 3LHD received the award for the Baljana hall as an example of the integration of contemporary architecture into a traditional environment. The drywall motif is reinterpreted in the new technology of reworked facade elements. As the largest facility in the town next to the church, the “Bale” hall, in addition to its basic function as a school sports hall, has become a place for public city events, but also a place where the people of Bale and their guests can relax in the sauna and wellness center.
